The Opportunity:
Thisposition assists the Controller; Assistant VP of Tax, Payables, andProcurement; and Assistant Controller of Tax Compliance to ensureUniversity compliance with state and federal regulations related touniversity tax compliance issues. This includes but is not limitedto maintenance of subsidiary records and reconciliation of theserecords to the general ledger; processing of payments; maintenanceof all necessary documents in an auditable format; trainingdepartmental personnel on required procedures; preparation ofrequired tax forms and reports; and assistance in researching,interpreting, and applying all federal and stateregulations.
Responsibilities:
State Transaction Tax FilingsThisposition is required to monitor and remit Florida transaction taxes(sales tax, communications services tax, and tourist developmenttax) for the university, Research Foundation Florida sales tax, andConvocation Center Florida sales tax. This includes preparing allassociated work papers for review, timely filing of the properdocuments in the correct format with the appropriate taxingauthority, remitting payment timely to the appropriate taxingauthority, performing the required analyses to determine theappropriateness of the payments and withholding requirements, andinterfacing with various taxing authorities to affect paymentsdue.
ReportingThis position is required to prepare various taxfilings. These include but are not limited to: federal and stateunrelated business income tax, federal excise tax, and variousfederal and state information returns. This includes preparing allassociated work papers for review, timely filing of the properforms and statements in the correct format and sequence with theappropriate taxing authority, remitting payment timely to theappropriate taxing authority, performing the required analyses todetermine the appropriateness of the payments and withholdingrequirements, and interfacing with various taxing authorities toaffect payments due.
Training/GuidanceThis position is responsiblefor training UCF accounting staff members on tax issues which mayaffect their departments and recommending business process changes,as needed. This includes assisting supervisors with responding totax questions received via email and Workday Help Cases.
Maintenance& Reconciliation of RecordsResponsible for preparing andmaintaining various tax records. This includes but is not limitedto, reconciling tax account balances; preparing tax journal entriesand tax ad hoc bank transactions; and review of transactionsrequiring tax approval in Workday.
Assist in
Interpreting andApplying Federal and State Regulations and Statutes:
This positionshall make supervisors aware of any changes in federal and stateregulations or statutes as they occur and the interpretation ofthese rules to assist in setting University policy on complianceand implementation.
Process ImprovementThis position shall advisesupervisors on process improvement recommendations includingsuggesting changes to Workday, reports, and other tax softwaresystems that will increase efficiency or accuracy of taxfilings.
Other responsibilities as assigned to carry out the missionof the department and university.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’sor Master’s degree and 2+ years of relevant experienceor anequivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla.
Stat. 112.219..
Preferred Qualifications:
3+ years of income tax experience. Federal corporate income tax experience. Data analysis and tax research experience with systems such asCCH or RIA.
Strong Excel Skills:
Experience using complex functions, dataanalysis, pivot tables. Professional written and verbal communication skills.
