The Cost Accountant’s primary responsibility is to oversee and analyze the costs associated with each construction project, ensuring accurate cost tracking and reporting. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction project costing, budget management, and profitability analysis. You will work closely with project managers and senior leadership to identify cost-saving opportunities, improve profitability, and provide valuable financial insights for decision-making. The Cost Accountant’s scope of work includes job cost accounting, Accounts Receivable (A/R), and Accounts Payable (A/P). This role is reliant on the ability to work with QuickBooks Online, AccuLynx, and other operating systems. Primary Responsibilities Track and manage job costs to ensure accurate allocation of labor, materials, and overhead expenses for each project using AccuLynx and QuickBooks Online. Collaborate with project managers to provide cost analysis and financial insights for ongoing and completed jobs. Prepare detailed cost reports and variance analyses to support project budgeting and profitability assessments. Ensure timely and accurate entry of cost data into QuickBooks Online and AccuLynx. Assist in maintaining cost data integrity and preparing reports for monthly closings by the 5th business day. Generate and send invoices to customers in a timely manner using QuickBooks Online/AccuLynx. Monitor accounts receivable balances, follow up on overdue accounts, and manage collections to ensure timely payment. Record and reconcile payments received, maintaining accurate records of customer accounts. Collaborate with the sales and operations teams to resolve billing discrepancies and customer inquiries. Review, process, and record vendor invoices for payment using QuickBooks Online. Ensure timely payments to suppliers and subcontractors in accordance with terms. Reconcile A/P accounts and resolve discrepancies with vendors. Maintain organized and up-to-date records of vendor transactions and payment schedules in both systems. Deliver financial statement accuracy Collaborate in product pricing strategies and margin analysis Partner with outside firm(s) for audits Assist in developing local financial policies and procedure Education, Experience, and Qualifications Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 1-2 years of cost accounting, preferably in construction or a related field
  • 2-4 years in an accounting role
  • Manage revenue over $5M/year
  • Familiarity with the construction accounting lifecycle (project budgets, change orders, billing processes, and job cost tracking) Preferred
  • CPA/CMA and/or Master of Science in Accounting or Finance
  • 3-5+ years of cost accounting, preferably in construction or a related field
  • 4-6+ years in an accounting role
  • Manage revenue over $20M/year
  • Expertise with the construction accounting lifecycle (project budgets, change orders, billing processes, and job cost tracking)
  • 3+ years of budgeting and financial statement management
