Project Accountant- Real Estate/Development/Construction Reports To:
Victor Scala, VP Development and Construction & David Moffat, Chief Accounting Officer The Project Accountant will be a vital member of our financial team, with a primary focus on managing and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data related to our construction projects. This role requires a blend of expertise in project accounting, AIA Billings, and a comprehensive understanding of construction. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting our financial objectives, managing project-related finances, and contributing to the year-end audit process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the project accounting division, ensuring adherence to company policies and compliance with financial regulations. Conduct regular reviews of project accounts and ledgers, rectifying any discrepancies and ensuring accuracy. Monitor and analyze project financials, including Profit and Loss reports, to ensure adherence to budgets and timelines. Manage AIA billing process, ensuring timely and accurate invoices and revenue recognition for all projects. Prepare detailed financial reports and forecasts, providing insights and recommendations based on financial data, including Work in Progress (WIP) reporting. Oversee the entry and maintenance of project-related financial information in accounting software, ensuring data reliability and accuracy. Facilitate the year-end audit process by assisting with the preparation financial statements and supporting documentation, and act as a liaison between the company and external auditors. Assist in developing and reviewing project budgets, implementing cost-saving strategies to optimize financial resources. Develop and maintain robust internal financial controls and procedures to ensure compliance with accounting standards and legal requirements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive financial management across projects.
Preferred Prerequisites:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with CPA certification preferred or in progress. Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and the AIA billing process. Proficiency in Procore as well as other similar accounting software Exceptional analytical and organizational skills, with a proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Ability to work independently and multitask in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
