Senior Statutory Accountant Position Available In Pinellas, Florida

Description We are partnered with a client in the insurance industry to source for 2 Associate-Level Statutory Accountants, one focused in Return Premiums, the other focused in Surplus Lines, to work in a hybrid capacity based in the St. Petersburg, FL area. Main responsibilities for each role are outlined below:

Return Premiums:

+ Review and validate premium refund requests to ensure accuracy and eligibility based on policy terms, endorsements, and cancellations. + Process premium refunds through internal systems and ensure proper general ledger accounting entries. + Collaborate with underwriting, customer service, and billing departments to verify premium adjustments and resolve discrepancies. + Assist in month-end closing processes, including journal entries and refund accruals as necessary. + Maintain documentation and audit trails for all refund transactions to ensure regulatory and internal compliance.

Surplus Lines:

+ Calculate and remit surplus lines taxes in accordance with varying state regulations, filing requirements, and deadlines. + Maintain a comprehensive tax calendar to manage and meet all jurisdictional filing obligations. + Collaborate with underwriting, compliance, and external partners to gather required data for accurate filings. + Prepare and file affidavits, tax reports, and supporting documents with state departments of insurance or designated tax authorities. + Reconcile tax payments with internal systems and general ledger accounts to maintain audit-ready records. Requirements + Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Finance, or business-related field of study required + Active CPA, CIA, or CGMA a plus, but not required + 3+ years of Insurance / Premium Accounting experience required, prior insurance regulatory reporting / statutory accounting experience a plus (ideally with a large insurance firm & most critical for Surplus Lines role) + Billing & Collections experience / exposure a plus + Comprehensive understanding of and proven experience with month-end close procedures and full cycle accounting will be crucial Robert Half is the world’s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
