Staff Accountant The Housing Authority of the City of Fort Pierce 511 Orange Avenue, Fort Pierce, FL 34950

PLEASE READ:

General Statement of Job Under limited supervision, performs a variety of moderately complex fiscal or bookkeeping duties related to maintaining the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, grants, and/or payroll; may supervise a small work group in the absence of management; and performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties:

Review the interface of each financial module (accounts receivable, accounts payable and/or payroll) before transactions are posted to the general ledger. Maintain general ledgers and produce certain financial statements. Responsible for processing draws in the LOCCS for programs like Comp Grant, etc. Prepare journal entries to be posted each month to the general ledger. Reconcile checks and accounts. Audit reports to verify accuracy of data and to ensure proper accounts are credited. Maintain financial grant activity and prepares weekly, monthly and/or quarterly activity reports. Analyze, track and interpret expenditure, grant and/or revenue budget information; to include monthly analysis and reporting on Section 8 budget usage. Assist with preparation of payroll as needed including the production of quarterly and end of year reports, to include quarterly and annual tax filings (941’s, UCT 6’s, W-2’s, etc). Research discrepancies or verify account information using automated data systems or hard copy documents. Prepare information and provide assistance to auditors (HUD and workers compensation). May supervise support staff and/or a small work group as well as serve as Acting Director in the Director’s absence. May perform back-up duties for other positions within the work group. Perform other duties as apparent or as assigned. Education, Experience, and Licenses Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field and at least three (3) years senior level general accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of general accounting principles. Knowledge of basic math principles. Knowledge of customer service principles and techniques. Skill in using general office equipment such as telephone, fax, printers, copiers, calculators, and computers. Skill in maintaining accounting records. Skill in using computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet and database programs. Skill in dealing effectively with the general public and in resolving customer service issues. Skill setting up and maintaining computerized accounting records. Skill in supervision and the oversight of work that involves the use of complex technical, scientific, or mathematical concepts that increases the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization. Must be able to work in a dynamic environment that requires the incumbent to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing.

Physical Demands and Work Environment :

Work involves sedentary to light work in an office setting. There is frequent need to sit, talk or hear, use the hands, reach with hands and arms, occasionally lift light objects (up to 10 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. Must possess the ability to see (color and depth perception), hear and speak at an above average level. $52,967.02 – $56,000.00 per year
