Job Description The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing and overseeing complex accounting functions to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance. This position will report to the Associate Controller. The Senior Accountant must comply with university policies and procedures, state and federal regulations, and accounting standards. Additionally, they will prepare reconciliations and audit work papers.

Key Responsibilities Debt and Lease Accounting:

Manage payments and recording of payments, maintain and monitor compliance with bonds and notes, prepare related schedules for inclusion in the University’s audited financial statements. Utilizing Adaje, prepare financing models, and manage the University’s post-issuance compliance of its bond portfolio and disclosures.

FEMA Submissions:

Collaborate with various departments to gather and organize documentation for FEMA submissions. Prepare and review FEMA reimbursement claims, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Track and monitor the status of FEMA submissions and follow up on any outstanding issues. Review and update, as needed, the University’s policies and procedures in accordance with FEMA’s Public Assistance Program and Policy Guide.

Financial Compliance:

Using Resolver, automate financial compliance management processes and tasks facilitating the integration of new regulatory requirements into existing workflows. Identify and prioritize compliance gaps. Set custom alerts for specific compliance and risk events, ensuring that stakeholders are notified of important developments in real time. Provide reports to demonstrate adherence to regulatory requirements.

Cost Accounting:

Manage the cost accounting function which involves working with various departments (e.g., Facilities, Construction and Planning, etc.) to review capital project transactions in Workday, understanding the allocation of costs, monitoring expenditures and researching discrepancies. Qualifications Education:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA certification preferred.

Experience:

At least five years of experience in accounting (knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)), including a minimum of one year lead/supervisory experience, with a focus on financial reporting and compliance. Experience with FEMA submissions is highly desirable. Experience with debt and lease accounting and cost accounting and allocation is desirable. Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret grant and contractual requirements and compliance.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Working Conditions This position may require occasional travel to different University facilities. The role may involve working extended hours during peak periods. Following a successful probationary period, this position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement of one remote workday per week.
