Job Description:

This position is a non-supervisory, unclassified position within the Disbursement/Retirement section of Payroll. This position is responsible for the direct deposit function in Workday, reconciling and remitting 403(b)B and 457(b) plan payments via Retirement and Deferred Compensation and general payroll accounting functions for all of the Baton Rouge paid campuses, which areprised of

LSU A&M, LSUE, LSUA, LSUS, LSU

Agricultural Center, and Pennington Biomedical Research Center. 45% Manages the direct deposit function in Workday, including submitting the pre-note files for Payroll, Expense and Bursar Student refunds. Balances/audits daily correction and return reports along with any necessary ad hoc entries for returns and the reissue of returned payroll payments to corrected accounts. Requires an understanding of the National Automated Clearing Association (NACHA) rules and regulations and ACH codes. Communicates extensively with employees, students, and our representative from JP an Chase to verify and correct banking information. Creates required reversing entries for overpayments and the required ad hoc bank entries for bank returns.
20% Maintains knowledge and keeps abreast of supplemental retirement programs, which include but is not limited to 6panies under the IRC Section 403(b), IRC Section 401(k) plan, and IRC Section 457(b) plan, and federal and state tax laws as they relate to these plans. Reviews and approves all salary reduction agreements. Monitors the maximum contribution allowance and coordinates limits to be aggregated on all university employees to ensure that no employee is allowed to shelter more than the maximum allowed by law. Monitors the monthly disbursement of funds via Electronic Funds Transfer for Retirement Manager and Deferredpensation and prepares related ACH entries for these payments.
20% Reconciles monthly ledgers and remits payments at the end of the month for miscellaneous payroll deductions withheld from employees paychecks. These include Start Savings, LSU Foundation United Givers and other miscellaneous deductions.
15% Performs other duties as assigned by Payroll Management, including participating in any required Workday testing due to changes affecting payment elections and retirement. This also includes updating monthly newsletters and the payroll so that employees and students are aware of the latest changes. This also may include providing sufficient backup and support to other desks in the Disbursement/Retirement section.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a business-related field with at least 24 hours of accounting. 24 hours of accounting can be substituted for 2 years of directly applicable professional experience.
