Job Description
Staff accountants are supervised by senior accountants or other, moreexperienced, staff accountants. They provide controllership,bookkeeping, & basic tax return preparation services for clients.
Initially they are given less complex accounting & tax assignments. Asthey gain experience, they are given more difficult assignments &greater responsibilities.
Duties:
Become familiar with the firm’spolicies & procedures. Effectively communicates indirectly via emailwith client to receive information necessary to complete the engagementwith a minimum of disruption to client. Understand the rules,requirements, & code of conduct of the AICPA, & the authoritativeliterature established by the
FASB & GASB.
Become familiar withpertinent IRC sections & regulations. Obtain a working knowledge of tax& accounting research techniques & the various sources in the firmlibrary. Obtain a working knowledge of firm technology, including theuse of QuickBooks, Office 365 email, & the Internet; & the use of firmspreadsheet, word processing, tax preparation, & time & billingsoftware. Prepare compilations, reviews & tax work papers, includingtrial balances, depreciation schedules, & debt amortization schedules.
Ability to perform balance sheet reconciliations effectively. Assumeresponsibility for the completion of tax returns under the supervisionof more experienced staff. Perform assigned audit procedures forspecific accounts & transactions under the supervision of moreexperienced staff. Meet necessary time deadlines per task lists. Preparesales tax returns for clients. Work with senior staff &/or managers toschedule work. Review your client’s work to ensure efficiency.
Qualifications:
Staff accountants must have at least a collegeundergraduate degree & have completed at least 30 hours in college-levelaccounting courses.
