Full Job Description Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accountant to join our accounting team at Windfield Real Estate LLC, a real estate and development group in North Kansas City, MO. Reporting to the Controller, the Accountant will support day-to-day accounting operations, including financial reporting, account reconciliations, and project cost tracking. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in accounting principles and experience in the real estate or development sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting Support:
Assist the Controller in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cash flow reports.
General Ledger Management:
Help maintain the general ledger by ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and classified.
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
Manage the accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring invoices are paid on time and collections are appropriately handled.
Bank Reconciliation:
Perform monthly bank reconciliations, ensuring all financial records are accurate and discrepancies are promptly addressed.
Project Cost Tracking:
Assist with tracking costs associated with real estate development projects, ensuring proper allocation of expenses.
Budgeting & Forecasting Support:
Collaborate with the Controller in preparing budgets, financial forecasts, and cash flow projections for ongoing and upcoming projects.
Tax Compliance:
Assist with preparation and filing of various tax returns, including sales tax, property tax, and income tax filings, ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws.
Internal Controls:
Support the development and maintenance of internal accounting controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies and industry standards.
Audit Preparation:
Assist the Controller during annual audits by providing necessary documentation and answering audit-related questions.
Special Projects:
Provide accounting support for special projects and other ad hoc tasks as assigned by the Controller.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Experience:
2+ years of accounting experience, ideally in real estate or development, with familiarity in cost accounting and financial reporting.
Knowledge:
Solid understanding of GAAP, tax regulations, and general accounting principles.
Skills:
Proficient in accounting software (QuickBooks, Yardi, or similar). Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.). Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Certifications (preferred): CPA or pursuing CPA designation is a plus, but not required.
