31 Agency Maximum Salary $57,105.97 About the Agency The Mississippi Department of Mental Health (DMH) certifies, provides and/or financially supports a network of services for people with mental illness, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders. This position is in the Mississippi Department of Mental Health’s Central Office, which provides the overall statewide administrative functions for the programs and services that fall under the oversight of the agency. To inquire about this position, please contact MarQuaita Lampkin, Human Resource Director at marquaita.lampkin@dmh.ms.gov About the Position The MS Department of Mental Health is seeking to fill an Accountant II position in the Accounting Division. This position will report to the Accounting Director and will serve as the Accounts Payable and Travel Reimbursement Specialist. The Accounts Payable and Travel Reimbursement Specialist has primary responsibility for the processing and payment of invoices and travel payroll in a timely manner.
Primary duties include:
- Managing accounts payable using the Mississippi Accountability System for Government Information and Collaboration (MAGIC), and other accounting software/programs
- Keeping track of, and facilitating all payments and expenditures, including travel payroll, invoices, statements, etc.
- Analyzing workflow processes and providing feedback on efficiencies that can be gained through streamlining or efficacy of controls regarding expenditures
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with new and existing vendors.
- Ensuring invoices and travel are processed/paid in a timely and accurate manner while adhering to departmental/state procedures
- Comparing purchase orders, prices, terms of payment, receipt of goods, and any other charges for proper payment
- Processing transactions and performing accounting duties such as account maintenance, recording entries and reconciling vendor accounts
- Serving as a liaison between the Accounting division and DMH Central Office for all invoicing and billing questions
- Processing travel reimbursements for employees and Board members, and verifies that travel submissions are compliant with regulations of the state and department policies
- Other accounting duties as assigned What you’ll need to be Successful To succeed in this role, the candidate should have strong organization and communication skills; the ability to prioritize important tasks; and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Preferred Qualifications Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 2-4 years of experience and/or appropriate certification.
Agency preferred qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year university or college in accounting or related field and 2-4 years of experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in State government accounting and accounting systems, such as
