Job Description
Cost Accountant 3.0 3.0 out of 5 stars Burlington, NC 27217 We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our team. This role is critical to ensuring accurate cost analysis, job costing, inventory tracking, and financial reporting within our manufacturing or construction operations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in cost accounting principles, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and advanced skills in Excel and Microsoft Office tools.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare, analyze, and report on job costs, production costs, variances, and margin analysis Develop and maintain standard cost models and cost allocation methodologies Track and reconcile inventory and work-in-process (WIP) accounts Partner with operations and project management teams to ensure accurate tracking of labor, material, and overhead costs Monitor and analyze actual vs. budgeted costs and investigate variances Assist with month-end close processes including journal entries, account reconciliations, and cost roll-ups Maintain and improve financial reporting tools and dashboards using Excel and other platforms Support internal and external audits as needed Collaborate cross-functionally to optimize financial workflows and improve cost efficiency Utilize QuickBooks for transactional accounting and project-based reporting Interface with ADP for payroll and labor cost tracking when applicable
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field – or – equivalent combination of education and directly relevant industry experience Minimum 5 years of experience in cost accounting in discrete manufacturing or construction accounting environments Strong working knowledge of Excel (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, data modeling) and Microsoft Office Suite Familiarity with QuickBooks for job costing and financial reporting Understanding of payroll integration and labor cost tracking, preferably using
ADP Preferred:
Experience implementing or maintaining ERP or job cost systems Advanced Excel capabilities including Power Query, macros, or VBA Strong analytical and communication skills
