AED Certification Full Job Description Overview:

At Homeward Bound, we rely on our Finance team to help ensure the fiscal health of the organization in working to fulfill our mission to prevent and end homelessness in our community through permanent housing and support. We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to assist our Finance Team with day-to-day financial operations, grant administration, and special projects. The Finance Team currently consists of an Accountant, a Grant Accountant, and the Finance Director, who administer a budget of $9-$10M spread across 8 functional departments. The largest source of income for Homeward Bound is reimbursable grants, which require stringent tracking and reporting. Homeward Bound generates approximately 300 grant draws per fiscal year. In this role, a successful individual should possess in-depth knowledge of best practices in financial management and experience in a similar environment. An outstanding associate will be someone whose expertise results in accurate financial reporting and efficient account management.

Schedule and compensation:

This is a Full-time, non-exempt hourly position starting at $25 an hour. There are limited opportunities for remote work. This position is eligible for benefits coverage.

Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable:

Review and process vendor invoices and employee reimbursements, ensuring proper allocation to specific grants or funding sources. Ensure expenses are allowable, reasonable, and in line with grant budgets and compliance requirements. Maintain accurate records of payments and supporting documentation for grant audits and financial reporting. Coordinate with program staff to ensure proper coding of grant-related expenditures. Prepare and process weekly check runs, ACH payments, and maintain vendor records.

Pledge and Donation Accounting:

Record donor pledges and contributions in both the accounting and donor management systems. Reconcile pledge receivables with donor records from the development department. Monitor outstanding pledges and assist with donor communications related to pledge fulfillment. Track restrictions on donor funds and ensure proper classification and use. Generate pledge aging and contribution reports for internal stakeholders.

General Accounting and Reporting:

Assisting with the month-end close process, preparing journal entries, reconciliations and work papers Collaborating with General Accountant and Grant Accountant and working as the back-up staff for assembling grant draw packets, maintaining accurate Excel-based projections sheets and required supporting documentation. Investigating and reconciling discrepancies in accounts receivable and payable, as well as payroll Help to maintain file structures and naming conventions among financial support documents and accurate vendor and customer accounts in accounting software Supporting other accountant involves assisting clients and landlords rent payments processes, company credit cards reconciliations, bank reconciliation Assist with the preparation of operating budgets, financial statements, and reports as needed Assist with annual independent and single audits and periodic internal desk audits Review program guidance for enhancing policy and procedure development to help ensure regulatory compliance across all funding sources Ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) .
