We are seeking a seeking an Accountant to join our team! The Accountant will prepare, maintain and close financial statements for Self-Help Ventures Fund’s (SHVF) consolidating entities. This role is responsible for general accounting within SHVF’s consolidating entities, sharing in the management of year-end tax and audit work and providing analysis and internal management reporting for the LLCs. Experience with Historic and New Markets Tax Credits or Real Estate accounting preferred.
WHAT You’ll DO:
Create and post journal entries. Evaluate alternative means of treating transactions. Reconcile general ledger accounts and work with other SHVF accounting staff to ensure all general ledger accounts are reconciled. Ensure that monthly financial statements are prepared on a timely and accurate basis. Calculate loan and lease payments and owner distributions based on specifications. Utilize and apply knowledge of the fundamental doctrines, theories, principles, and terminology of accountancy, including an understanding of how transactions made in other departments affect accounting records. Apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to determine revenue recognition from grant agreements. Ensure the adequacy of the accounting system as the basis for reporting to management. Ensure internal systems balance to general ledger. Prepare schedule for external auditors. Correspond with the auditors to provide any information needed to ensure audits and tax returns are filed in a timely manner. Work with other teams and outside vendors to gather clarity or documentation for responding to auditors. Review annual corporation and partnership returns and audited financial statements prepared by outside CPA firms. Respond to information/reporting requests from both internal and external sources, when needed. Actively participate in interdepartmental meetings and assessing the impact accounting or procedural changes will have on the team. Perform other duties as may be deemed necessary.
WHAT You’ll NEED:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience. Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in financial institution in progressively senior positions. Experience preparing partnership tax returns and/or with investment tax credits preferred. CPA, MAC, MBA or JD preferred Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and aptitude to quickly learn new software applications Keen attention to detail. Strong communication skills and ability to work productively on a team. Good organization skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
