Position Overview The Staff Accountant is a key member of our Finance team, responsible for day-to-day accounting operations that ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely financial reporting. This role will support 9th Way by managing AP/AR, performing reconciliations, preparing journal entries, coordinating payroll, and collaborating with project finance and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities Accounts Payable & Receivable:

Process vendor invoices, expense reports, and vendor payments; generate customer invoices, track receivables, and follow up on overdue balances.

Reconciliations:

Perform monthly bank, credit card, and intercompany reconciliations; investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly.

Journal Entries & Month-End Close:

Prepare and record routine and adjusting journal entries (accruals, deferrals, prepaid expense amortization); support month-end and year-end close activities.

Payroll Coordination:

Partner with HR and payroll provider to gather timesheets, verify hours, and ensure accurate, timely payroll runs; reconcile payroll liabilities and benefits.

Financial Reporting & Analysis:

Assist with preparation of monthly financial reports; provide variance analysis on key line items and support ad-hoc analyses as needed.

System Administration:

Support Unanet time-and-expense administration, including project setup, rate updates, and user troubleshooting.

Process Improvement & Controls:

Document and maintain standard operating procedures; recommend and implement process enhancements to improve efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Work closely with Project Finance Analysts and project managers to ensure costs are properly coded, budgets are adhered to, and financial data supports informed decision-making. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Experience in lieu of degree will be considered. 2-4 years of accounting experience, preferably within a government contracting (GovCon) environment. Proficiency with general ledger systems and ERP tools (Unanet experience strongly preferred). Solid understanding of GAAP, AP/AR, reconciliations, and payroll processes. Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, basic macros). Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to collaborate across departments. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS). Professional certification such as CPA, CMA, or progress toward one.
