$54,944.73 – $68,680.91 Commensurate with Experience SUMMARY Workday/ERP Transformation Project Staff Full-time, temporary positions through October 31, 2025 The City of Charlotte Finance Department is seeking an Accountant I to work in the Financial Reporting Division. This position serves as a member of the Financial Reporting team which consists of a Chief Accountant, Assistant Chief Accountant, Accountants, a Budget & Finance Analyst, and an Accounting Technician. This position will perform professional work managing accounting related operations and reviewing and preparing financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for governmental organizations. The selected candidate will work with the Chief and Assistant Chief Accountant, department heads, city staff, and other financial professionals inside the organization.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensure the integrity of the City’s financial statements. Monitor financial transactions and ensure appropriate application of generally accepted accounting principles. Enter, review, and approve journal and budget entries. Audit invoices for payments Update and maintain capital assets module. Update and maintain lease module. Assist with account and bank reconciliations Update and maintain Subscription Base Information Technology module. Complete monthly account and bank reconciliations. Prepare interim financial statements, including supporting work-papers. Prepare annual financial statements, including supporting work-papers. Reconcile and analyze subsidiary ledgers. Review, approve and post journal entries interfaces. Reconcile Grant Workbook to the general ledger. Conduct research and provide information needed to resolve an issue. Attend and participate at assigned meetings as a representative for Financial Reporting Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field with two (2) years of relevant work experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Degree in Accounting/Finance or closely related field Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of governmental accounting Knowledge of the general methods for evaluating financial performance such as income statement preparation, variance analysis and break-even analysis Proficient with personal computers including spreadsheet and database applications. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Strong written and oral communication skills

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
