Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Sales Tax Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in Charlotte, North Carolina. This role focuses on ensuring accurate preparation and filing of sales tax returns across multiple states, while maintaining compliance with applicable tax regulations. Responsibilities:
- Prepare and file sales tax returns for multiple states, ensuring compliance with local tax regulations.
- Review and analyze sales transactions to determine the correct application of sales tax.
- Maintain accurate tax records and documentation to support filings and audits.
- Research and resolve discrepancies related to sales tax calculations or payments.
- Collaborate with internal teams to gather data required for tax reporting.
- Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Assist with audits by providing requested documentation and explanations.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and enhance efficiency in tax preparation activities. Requirements
- Proven experience in sales tax accounting, including preparation and filing of returns.
- Strong understanding of state-specific sales tax regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting financial data related to sales transactions.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and external auditors.
- Familiarity with accounting software and tools used for tax reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
