Job Description
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Property Staff Accountant to join our team on a Contract to permanent basis in Newark, New Jersey. In this role, you will manage financial operations related to tenant payments, government subsidies, and property charges, ensuring accurate reconciliation with the general ledger. Ideal candidates will thrive in an independent work environment and have prior experience with Yardi software and real estate accounting.
Responsibilities:
- Process monthly tenant charges and government payment postings with precision.
- Record daily payment transactions and ensure proper reconciliation to the general ledger.
- Conduct reviews and reconciliations of accounts receivable sub-ledgers to maintain accuracy.
- Prepare and post journal entries to align with financial reporting standards.
- Manage reconciliation tasks for vacant units and move-in units to ensure proper documentation.
- Perform bank reconciliations and account coding for all financial transactions.
- Review and analyze general ledger entries to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Utilize Yardi software to streamline accounting processes and generate reports.
- Collaborate with team members to support audits and financial reviews.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and organizational policies while maintaining confidentiality. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Yardi software and familiarity with real estate accounting practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Strong knowledge of accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger reconciliation.
- Experience with bank reconciliations and accrual accounting methods.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
- Prior experience in a non-profit or housing assistance program is a plus.
