Job Description

Cost Accountant Job Description The Cost Controller will ensure accurate financial records, clean balance sheets, and reconciled P&Ls while driving operational analysis and project cost control. You’ll help steer budgets, track productivity, internal staff point incentives, and fill operational gaps as needed. Responsibilities + Maintain and reconcile A/R, A/P, and G/L; ensure clean balance sheets and P&Ls. + Manage Accounts Payable and issue payments for vendors and subcontractors. + Oversee QuickBooks Enterprise/QuickBooks Online (QBO) setup, updates, and troubleshooting. + Install, manage, and maintain QuickBooks Online cloud-based daily functions. + Train support staff in the use of QuickBooks Enterprise/QBO. + Liaise with CPAs, banks, auditors, and external partners. + Prepare monthly and ad-hoc financial reports. + Manage and reconcile balance sheet accounts, fixed assets, commissions, and adjusting entries. + Approve subcontractor invoices and resolve disputes as needed. + Track and own the employee incentive point system. + Develop and maintain job cost and performance reports. + Analyze employee point incentives and company performance metrics. + Benchmark overhead and advise on cost-saving opportunities. + Improve and refine reporting for divisions. + Support operations managers with vendor/customer disputes. + Coordinate with legal counsel as directed. + Gather data for dispute resolution as needed. Essential Skills + 5-7+ years’ experience with QuickBooks Enterprise/QuickBooks Online (QBO), from installation and setup to reporting. + Strong G/L, A/R, A/P, reconciliation, and troubleshooting skills. + Proficiency in Excel, OneNote, and Outlook. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field is strongly preferred. + Construction industry and job-cost accounting knowledge is a plus. + IT skills such as cloud email support and server environment familiarity are advantageous but not required. + HR and employment law knowledge would be nice but not needed. + Compensation insurance and auditing experience would be helpful. + Open to training the right fit if they have basic skills and an outstanding personality. Work Environment The role is 100% on-site in an open office environment that can be noisy, so comfort in this setting is essential. This position is within a small, family-owned company with one location. There is an assistant/admin who supports this role, as well as an office manager, but it remains a very autonomous role. The standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with flexibility for shifts like 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
