About the Company
An established and growing Central New York-based firm with operations in architecture, engineering, construction, and real estate development is seeking a Senior Accounting Specialist to support its Architecture & Engineering (A&E) business line. The organization has experienced significant expansion and is restructuring its accounting function to support long-term growth.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic and mission-driven team working on a diverse portfolio of commercial and community-driven projects throughout the region.
About the Role
This newly created position will serve as a key support partner to the A&E Controller and will be integral to the accounting operations of the A&E division. The selected candidate will gain deep exposure to project accounting within professional services and may grow into an Accounting Manager role over time.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the A&E Controller with daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting activities.
Support project accounting, billing cycles, reconciliations, and reporting processes.
Manage AP/AR workflows and collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate records.
Analyze budgets, job costs, and financial trends specific to engineering and architectural projects.
Prepare financial statements and documentation as needed.
Coordinate with other accounting staff across business units to maintain consistency and compliance.
Ideal Candidate Will Have
3-6+ years of accounting experience, preferably within professional services (A&E, construction, or related).
Strong foundational skills in AP, AR, billing, general ledger, and financial reconciliation.
Proven adaptability and problem-solving mindset; able to navigate evolving project scopes and deadlines.
High attention to detail and strong organization skills, with comfort working in a lean team environment.
Proficiency with Excel and accounting systems (experience with Azure or Key Styles a plus, but not required).
Excellent communication skills and an ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
A desire for professional growth and potential to move into a supervisory or specialized role in the future.
Work Environment & Culture
The position is in-office, with Buffalo strongly preferred. Syracuse-based candidates will also be considered.
