Position Objective:
Through Ownership pride, the Senior Accountant enhances the experience for members and internal owners by exhibiting versatile, professional, and efficient attributes as well as drive to deliver the “WOW” member service experience to become the Standard of Excellence in day-to-day operations of the Accounting Team. The Senior Accountant serves as a mentor and resource to other Accountants, leading higher-level responsibilities such as ALM calculations, quarterly reporting, financial reporting, budgeting, and oversight of weekly and monthly team activities. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data and upholds compliance with accounting standards in support of Northern’s mission, vision, and strategic direction.

Proficiently performs daily operating procedures to maintain accounting records in accordance with GAAP by:
Approving Coin and Currency orders, wire transfers, and other treasury operating functions as needed and ensuring information is entered accordingly.
Reviewing cash account journal entries including transactions for deposits, ACH and share drafts, cash moves, and other Credit Union activities and programs.
Supporting the Director of Accounting in chart of account and general ledger maintenance.
Reviewing the home lending transactions, and funding necessary accounts for mortgage and other real estate closings.
Reviewing commercial loan closing transactions and related wire transfers to attorneys.
Supporting all aspects of the daily Treasury function including: Monitoring demand loans due to overnight cash shortages and initiating and recording the loan repayment.
Researching and resolving accounting errors and discrepancies.
Assisting, as needed, with all daily Accounting procedures to ensure continuous member service.
Proficiently assists with the monthly/year-end general ledger closing, and financial statement reconciliation in preparation for all entities by:
Performing reconciliations of all subsidiary ledger accounts, such as: Investments, Fixed Assets, Prepaids, and Accruals.
Maintaining the Credit Union’s capital/fixed asset portfolio, investments, depreciation schedules and asset inventory.
Analyzing, recording, reviewing, and posting appropriate journal entries upon receipt of the month-end reports.
Generating and reviewing various reports such as:
MMonthly Delinquency reports;Monthly collateral reports;Loan participation reports and reconciliations;Lease Accounting;Investments;Net change in balance reports;Analysis of allowance, shares, loans, and budget variance reports, as directed.
Reviewing monthly reconciliation statements for all material General Ledger accounts; assisting with financial statements and analysisCreating reports and running Current Expected Credit Loss (CECL) scenarios for management review.
Assisting, as needed, with all monthly and annual Accounting analysis, reconciling, and closing work.
Proficiently assists with the monthly/year-end general ledger closing, and financial statement reconciliation in preparation for all entities by:
Completing and reviewing monthly Board and Supervisory Committee reports in a timely manner.
Generating monthly/annual reports for presentation to management.
Reviewing and maintaining schedules for residential mortgages, home equities, consumer lending, and commercial real estate loan originations.
Collaborating with the Accounting team and assisting with the preparation and reporting of audit information by:
Coordinating the scheduling of audits with other teams,Compiling and delivering documentation to internal and external auditors and examiners,Being a point of contact for questions, concerns and following up on audit recommendations,Preparing the audited financial statements, schedules, and notes.
Reviewing regulatory information and submitting the monthly, quarterly, and annual regulatory/tax returns.
Ensuring that accounting records and reports comply with GAAP, professional standards, and governmental regulations.
Proficiently assists with the Credit Union’s budgeting process by:
Compiling data, preparing various reports, and analyzing accounts with team managers to effectively monitor variances, preparing the yearly budget, and Finance & Operations Plan.
Reviewing and analyzing loan and share budget projections and making recommendations.
Collaborating with team managers to recommend and prepare annual operating income and expense budgets.
Effectively assists with financial reporting, Credit Union audits, and regulatory reporting by:
Learning and demonstrating ALM basic concepts to achieve Credit Union goals and initiatives.
Calculating and updating model assumptions including: monthly interest rates, discount rates, prepayment speeds calculation and revisions, and ensuring decay rates are updated annually.
Preparing quarterly ALM reports and assisting in the analysis for changes to model assumption.
Preparing stress tests on model assumptions annually and supporting or independently presenting findings and conclusion to the ALCO Committee.
Preparing reports on ALM projects to present to the ALCO committee.
Effectively growing knowledge around interest rate risk and the maintenance of the ALM model.
Preparing and analyzing schedules for the quarterly 5300 Call Report filingProficiently ensures the strength of the Accounting team and the Credit Union by:
Reviewing controls and implementing recommendations to strengthen controls for the safety and soundness of the Credit Union.
Making recommendations based on funding analysis and financial activity to improve overall organizational efficienciesCollaborating with the Accounting team to develop goals and initiatives.
Reviewing and updating internal policies and procedures to ensure continued compliance and efficient operations.
Other Job Functions:

Obtains, maintains, and applies a thorough working knowledge of credit union history and philosophy, regulations, and policies and procedures of the credit union as well as all other credit union products and services and delivery channels.
Participates in the future of the credit union by offering constructive suggestions that may attract new members and/or enhance product penetration and improve efficiencies.
Reports all suspected fraud activity immediately to the appropriate team.
Performs all other duties as they pertain to this position.
Telecommuting work environment combined with occasional travel between relationship centers.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required2 to 5 years of accounting experience required.
A professional level of self-direction and autonomy is expected of this position. The use of sound judgment to recognize when matters need to be escalated to leadership is required.
The incumbent must be a persuasive communicator with excellent command of verbal and written presentations. Clear communication with internal and external owners is required along with the ability to effectively develop and motivate people in one-on-one and in small group situations is essential.
Creative problem-solving abilities, project management skills and strong organizational skills are required.
Must possess excellent mathematical skills and demonstrate ability to be accurate and attentive to detail.
Must have excellent customer service skills and have demonstrated ability to work and thrive in a team environment, in addition to a willingness to assist others.
Proven ability and maturity to handle confidential/sensitive information in a professional manner is required.
A full working knowledge and ability to utilize a broad range of PC-based software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite and other internal database programs. The ability to perform advanced Excel functions, analysis and reporting is required.achelor’s degree in Accounting with 2 to 5 years of accounting experience required.

Compensation:
The base pay range for this position is $61,028.64 – $80,100.10. Exact offers will be determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
