Project Accountant 2.8 2.8 out of 5 stars 236 West 30th Street, New York, NY 10001 Role Overview The Project Accountant ensures the financial integrity of CNR’s luxury residential and extended client-service projects. You’ll balance meticulous cost control with creative solutions, collaborating across teams to support our high‑standard build and maintenance work. Responsibilities Budget & Cost Management Track detailed budgets and forecasts per project Monitor and analyze variances to support project management and profitability Prepare monthly draw requests, ensure draw packages are fully reconciled before submission—supporting documentation includes subcontractor invoices, lien waivers, and vendor compliance Monitor project receivables and payables Reconcile billings against budget-to-actual tracking and percentage-of-completion metrics Financial Planning, Analysis Reporting Conduct detailed monthly reconciliations of project cost reports, accounts payable, and general ledger to ensure accuracy and alignment across systems Review cost coding for consistency and correct allocation to budgets and work breakdown structures Track committed costs vs. actuals and flag discrepancies proactively for resolution with project teams Process Optimization Analyze workflows and propose improvements Assist in defining and implementing internal controls over project accounting—segregation of duties, multi-step invoice approval, and consistent backup documentation Create and maintain standardized templates for change order logs, vendor tracking, and draw schedules Support the documentation of policies and procedures for financial workflows across departments Help implement accounting-software enhancements to reduce friction Collaboration & Problem-Solving Coordinate with project teams, architects, service technicians Communicate with transparency –no-silo mindsets Tackle issues proactively with practical, creative solutions Compliance & Quality Control Maintain audit-ready records by organizing contracts, invoices, and compliance docs clearly and consistently Partner with leadership to address gaps in financial oversight and suggest tools or process improvements to close those gaps (e.g., software automations, approval workflows) Monitor subcontractor compliance (insurance, waivers, licenses) to ensure risk mitigation across projects Support cost-plus and lump-sum contract billing with documentation Culture & Team Integration Exhibit a professional approach in all interactions -no drama Embrace continuous learning and knowledge sharing across teams Qualifications Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance 5-7 years’ construction accounting experience (residential focus strongly preferred) Expert in budgeting, job costing, financial analysis and reporting Skilled in Excel and ERP accounting systems (QuickBooks, Sage, Procore, etc.) Solution-oriented, process-driven, and culturally aligned Comfortable in fast-paced, high-touch, collaborative environment Why You’ll Thrive at CNR Group Join a team that values humility, mastery, and learning—even at the top of the field Work on one-of-a-kind projects alongside leading architects and craftspeople Develop and refine financial processes in a supportive, drama-free setting Align with a purpose-driven mission: exceptional homes that last a lifetime
