We’re looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. As the Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for maintaining the general ledger and preparing financial reports. You will play a key role in the monthly close process, including the preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations. Additionally, you will support the year-end audit process. Your work will be critical in providing accurate financial data to inform strategic decision-making and business planning within the book publishing industry. What you’d be doing: Maintain the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards Participate in the month-end close, preparing journal entries from support and analysis of posted transactions Analyze financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities Reconcile accounts to ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded Maintain internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets Assist with external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations as required Collaborate across the finance team to support the overall financial operations of the company Work closely with other departments to align financial practices with business objectives and respond to financial inquiries Ad hoc requests including management inquiries, special projects, and other one-off requests as needed We’re looking for someone who has: Bachelor’s degree in accounting with 0-1 years of accounting experience Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills Familiar with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP) with the ability to handle large data sets Ability to communicate financial information clearly to stakeholders Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment Publishing accounting experience (royalties, inventory), a plus Experience with NetSuite, a plus This position is located in New York, NY, and follows a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office presence three days per week. The base salary range for this position is $65,000 to $70,000 per year. The final offer will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications.
