This role is responsible for performing complex professional accounting work, including the maintenance and analysis of financial records, preparation of financial reports, and ensuring compliance with all relevant governmental accounting standards. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on professional with a passion for public sector finance. Essential Duties Manage and track financial data for grants and special revenue funds, ensuring compliance with all fund accounting and reporting requirements. Perform complex reconciliations of general ledger accounts, subsidiary ledgers, and bank statements to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies. Prepare, examine, and analyze a variety of financial statements, reports, and records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and GASB standards. Assist in the preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and other required external financial reports. Prepare and post journal entries for a variety of financial transactions, including accruals, deferrals, and reclassifications. Collaborate with internal and external auditors, providing necessary schedules, documentation, and support during audits. Stay current with new and upcoming GASB pronouncements and assess their potential impact on the organization. Job Requirements Physical and Mental Must be able to think analytically, have basic math skills and be able to read and interpret spreadsheets. Ability to formulate and communicate ideas. Proactive and sense of urgency to meet deadlines. Ensure all tasks performed are complete and accurate. Accounting knowledge to ensure all reported financials are true and fair.

Work/Educational Experience License Requirement:

Must be at least 18 years old, possess a high school or equivalent diploma and have the ability to obtain the appropriate license pursuant to the New York State Lottery regulations.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.

Experience:

A minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience. Direct experience in a government or public sector environment is highly preferred.

GASB Knowledge:

Demonstrated, in-depth experience with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) principles and pronouncements is essential.

Technical Skills:

Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel. Hands-on experience with governmental financial management/ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Tyler Munis, Infor Lawson, Oracle).

Soft Skills:

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. High degree of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly. Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) designation is a plus.
