Associate Accountant

- 40 hours per week as assigned. Travel is required between Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties and occasional travel to attend meetings. Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Accounting or Business; 1-3 years’ experience in general accounting duties or office experience; a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a supervisory role; general ledger experience and payroll experience a plus; skilled in Microsoft Word and Excel; good organizational and communication skills.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance-Authorized to work in the United States and pass all background clearances. Summary/Objective-To oversee and assist with the processing payroll in a timely and accurate manner, prepare reports for various entities, and back-up payroll for both counties. Essential Functions

Oversee each payroll run both Non-Taxable and Taxable 2. Check all salaries, deductions, and other payroll elements are correct and complete 3. Reviews time card on a weekly basis for accuracy 4. Analyze payroll functions for possible improvements 5. Ensure payroll clerks obtain the mandatory skills and training to be able to successfully complete job duties 6. Process employee compensation and ensure all employees receive payment through their designated payment method 7. Compute wages and deductions accurately and efficiently 8. Verify attendance and carefully tracking absences and hours worked by all employees 9. Record all payments in accessible databases and creating written reports on a monthly basis 10. Prepare and process bi-weekly, monthly and annual payroll and or reports 11. Ensure calculations relating to taxes, deductions, and garnishments are accurate 12. Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters 13. Supervise the payroll team and assign duties 14. Directing the collection, computing, and documentation of payroll data 15. Overseeing and reviewing payroll payments and account reconciliations 16. Ensuring records and processes comply withcompany and legal regulations 17. Coordinating with HR and accounting to verify employee data and accounts. 18. Works with HR to troubleshoot payroll issues or concerns 19. Prepare Federal/State Reporting requirements on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis. 20. Fill in for Absent Accounting Staff, as requested. 21. Other duties as assigned. Competencies
