Role:
Dynamic and fast paced estate planning law firm is seeking a full-time Fiduciary Accountant to join our team. This role is ideal for a CPA or attorney with experience in fiduciary accounting who is detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable working with estate and trust financials. You will play a key role in the administration of estates and trusts, preparing fiduciary accountings, income, estate and gift tax filings, and supporting documentation for court proceedings and client reporting.
Responsibilities include:
Preparing formal and informal fiduciary accountings for estates and trusts, including schedules required for court filings Preparation of federal and state estate and gift tax returns (706/709) Coordinating with attorneys, financial institutions, and tax professionals to gather necessary financial data Handling IRS and NYS gift and estate audits Reconciling accounts, tracking assets, liabilities, distributions, and expenses Preparing income tax returns for estates and trusts (1041) Ensuring compliance with court rules and relevant state statutes (New York experience preferred) Supporting attorneys with client reporting and questions related to asset distribution and accounting processes
Qualifications:
CPA or licensed attorney with fiduciary accounting experience Minimum 5 years of experience in estate/trust accounting or related field Strong understanding of estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax concepts Proficiency with accounting software, Excel, and legal/estate software (e.g., GEMS, FAS, or similar programs) Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills Strong communication and analytical skills Experience with Surrogate’s Court accounting preferred but not required
