Immediately Job DescriptionThe job of Financial Accountant was established for the purpose of providing support to departmental activities that relate to daily cash and banking transactions. This position ensures that fiscal procedures are followed by monitoring bank activity, and confirming the accuracy of various transactions by recording, updating and reconciling corresponding general ledger accounts.

Essential Functions:

Responsible for the depositing of cash and checks received for the Education Foundation, Healthcare Trust, Market Cart sales, etc.
Records cash receipts from various subsidies, including PDE payments reported in the FAI – Financial Accounting Information System, OVR, LPN and other operational activities and programs.
Processes credit card payments for various activities and programs throughout the DCIU. Runs reports to verify the data.
Coordinates the collection and recording of sales receipts for the Market Cart, an Options program.
Prepares a monthly reconciliation of the medical insurance billing to the general ledger.
Reconciles monthly fiscal information including bank and account balances for the purpose of verifying accuracy of information, maintaining accurate records and complying with accounting practices.

Follows up on out-of-balance transactions between the bank accounts and the general ledger.
Implements accounting procedures for the purpose of providing internal financial controls throughout the organization and ensuring compliance with established accounting practices
Supports Accounts Payable with processing stop payments, voids, and verifying check clearing.
Provides technical expertise and direction to staff and administration regarding accounting issues and related financial activities for the purpose of conveying pertinent information regarding the organizations financial operations and ensuring compliance with established policies and practices.
Researches a wide variety of financial and administrative topics for the purpose of providing information and/or recommendations that impact the organizations operations.
Responds to inquiries from a wide variety of internal and external sources (e.g. staff, insurance companies, government agencies, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, direction and/or appropriate referrals.
Compiles statistical and financial data for the purpose of providing third-party reporting and providing financial summaries to other personnel, and/or ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
Organizes reporting processes, procedures and internal controls (Healthcare Trust, Education Foundation, Practical Nursing Program, etc) for the purpose of maintaining the efficient flow of financial processes.
Foundation accounting; cafeteria and unemployment accounting for the purpose of ensuring the accuracy of reported information, availability of funds, and compliance with established financial guidelines and program policies, practices and regulatory requirements.
Assists withyear-end audit process.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Education Required:

Bachelor’s degree in related area.

Experience Required:

Job Related experience required.

Other Qualifications:

5 years of related experience in general ledger, financial reporting, budgeting, purchasing or auditing considered an equivalency in lieu of education requirement.
