We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Accountant to support the preparation and submission of financial reports in accordance with the NAIC Model Audit Rule (MAR) . The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring our organization meets statutory requirements for internal control over financial reporting (ICFR), supports documentation efforts, and assists with audit coordination related to MAR compliance. Responsible for updating accounting department on all FASB and SAP pronouncement changes. Responsible for coordinating Annual audit, which would include all preliminary audit work. Coordinate Risk Focus exam performed by the Insurance Departments, which is scheduled every 5 years.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Prepare and maintain documentation to support MAR compliance, including narratives, risk/control matrices, and walkthroughs. Assist in the evaluation and documentation of internal controls over financial reporting in accordance with MAR (similar to SOX 404 for insurers). Work closely with internal teams and external auditors to support annual financial statement audits and MAR attestations. Identify and help implement improvements in control processes to enhance financial reporting reliability and accuracy. Monitor changes in MAR regulations and ensure reporting practices remain compliant. Prepare and analyze financial reports, reconciliations, and disclosures required for statutory filings. Assist with testing the design and operating effectiveness of controls. Research all current and pending
FASB & SAP
pronouncements and communicate to the accounting department on a Quarterly basis. Assist in the completion of the Risk Focus Exam perform the State Insurance Department.
Requirements Knowledge and Skills:
Four-year business degree with Accounting or Finance major 2-5 years’ experience in accounting, ideally in the insurance or financial services industry. Experience with internal controls, external Audits, or regulatory compliance (MAR, SOC, etc). Familiarity with NAIC statutory accounting principles a plus Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills. Proficiency in Excel and accounting /reporting systems
Required Skills/Abilities:
1. Previous experience supporting MAR or SOX compliance initiatives. 2. Understanding of insurance regulatory frameworks and statutory financial reporting. 3. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a deadline-driven environment. 4. Insurance Accounting Knowledge 5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 6. Excellent organizational and time management skills. 7. Proficient in accounting software. 8. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
