POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Accounting Generalist is responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of a 60-room inn with approximately 130 employees. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, supports budgeting and forecasting, maintains compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and provides operational insight to support business decision-making. The Accounting Generalist works closely with department heads, HR, and the executive team to maintain financial integrity and support the overall success of the property. The Accounting Generalist reports to the General Manager with additional oversight from the Director of Finance at Hotel Bennett. As an essential member of the Leadership Team, this position is responsible for coordinating accounting functions with the Accounting Team at Hotel Bennett.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Reporting Manage daily accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and general ledger entries Reconcile cash and credit cards daily and follow up on variances. Prepare monthly financial statements and performance reports for management Reconcile bank statements and review cash flow regularly Prepare monthly general ledger reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts Maintain accurate records of financial transactions and ensure they are posted in a timely manner Budgeting & Forecasting Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts Monitor actual performance against budget and provide variance analysis Identify financial trends and make recommendations for cost control and revenue growth Payroll & Employee Support Collaborate with HR to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing for approximately 130 employees Oversee payroll tax reporting and year-end documentation (W-2s, 1099s) Ensure compliance with labor laws and internal financial policies Internal Controls & Compliance Maintain and enforce internal accounting policies and procedures Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including sales and occupancy taxes Operational Collaboration Work with department managers (housekeeping, front desk, maintenance, food & beverage) to monitor departmental expenses and revenues Provide financial insight and support to improve operational efficiency and profitability
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required) 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the hospitality industry Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal control principles Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or hotel-specific systems like Opera, or RoomKey PMS) Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial modeling and forecasting Strong organizational and time-management skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a hotel, inn, or resort environment Familiarity with HR and payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex)
Work Environment:
This position operates in a professional office environment within the inn. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required, especially during month-end close, audits, or peak seasons.
