Accountant – Columbia, SC $45,000-$55,000 | Long-Term Contract | M-F, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM We are a recruiting and staffing agency partnering with a state government department to fill a long-term contract opportunity for an experienced Accountant in Columbia, SC. This full-time role offers stability, competitive pay, and the opportunity to make a direct impact within a dynamic public-sector finance team. The Accountant will be responsible for managing and executing a range of accounting duties, including processing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling accounts, reviewing and processing routine budget transactions, and analyzing complex financial reports to determine appropriate funding sources and track balances. A high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required, including working with formulas, pivot tables, and large data sets. Experience with SCEIS is not required but is highly desirable. This position demands someone who can quickly learn internal systems and processes, handle a high volume of transactions, and consistently deliver accurate and timely results. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, analytical, and capable of identifying discrepancies, flagging potential issues, and offering solutions. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently while managing competing deadlines are essential. Candidates with prior experience in governmental or fund accounting will be especially successful in this role. A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred.
