Job Title:
Accountant General Nature of Work The Staff Accountant reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounts payable (A/P), accounts receivable (A/R), and Grant management functions. This includes account analysis and reconciliation, journal entry preparation , and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data. This role requires a detail-oriented, self-motivated individual who can work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (both verbal and written) are essential. The Staff Accountant must ensure that SCACAP’s financial practices comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and internal control standards and will be expected to recommend and implement accounting procedures and systems improvements. Primary Responsibilities and Duties Process accounts payable transactions and issue purchase orders. Analyze and prepare general ledger entries. Support the monthly closing process, including journal entries and variance analysis. Prepare monthly account reconciliations and financial reports. Manage accounts receivable processing, reconciliation, and reporting. Reconcile expenditure reports with source documentation and maintain accurate financial filing systems. Prepare vendor payments by accruing expenses, verifying invoices, and assigning vendor codes. Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the CFO. Maintain financial documents and review documents for audits Prepare financial reports and maintain compliance Monthly re Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related coursework. At least 5 years of accounting experience in a State, federal, financial, or nonprofit environment preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to analyze and interpret complex data sets and apply mathematical concepts accurately. Familiarity with federal and South Carolina contract/grant budgeting and reporting standards. Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines consistently. High degree of confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive financial data. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software, particularly QuickBooks , MIP, and other accounting software Keep abreast with trends and platforms in the financial world. Additional Information Position is grant-funded. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of funding and satisfactory job performance.
