Job Description
Reporting to the College of Arts & Sciences’ Assistant Director of Financial Support Services, the Financial Accountant position is responsible for comprehensive financial management for departments within the Division of Biology, as well as for providing financial support to departments needing specialized assistance.
Reporting to the College of Arts & Sciences’ Assistant Director of Financial Support Services, the Financial Accountant position is responsible for comprehensive financial management for departments within the Division of Biology, as well as for providing financial support to departments needing specialized assistance.
Responsibilities
Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: managing grant and contract funds; interaction with department staff, faculty and sponsored projects accounting; providing account analysis, projections and guidance; tracking expenditures and ensuring appropriate assignment of costs; preparing reports for the purpose of strategic planning and timely closeouts. This position is expected to work as a full-charge accountant with limited supervision and to be knowledgeable in the areas of division/department operations, including payroll and personnel records, tuition records, budgeting, accounts payable and receivable, purchasing, sub-awards, travel and research administration.
This position provides sponsored projects accounting support, ensuring allowability of charges and compliance with University policies and Uniform Guidance, interpreting policies for PIs, and informing the development of procedures related to post-award accounting processes for the CAS Financial Support Services unit.
Additionally, this position will provide support for all aspects of the daily accounting needs of the supported units. Additionally, this position will develop and maintain financial reports that will be used to provide up-to-date information to department heads, PIs, and departmental business managers of current account statuses. This position will act as a resource to departmental faculty, staff, and students in matters related to financial policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Education and experience:
Bachelor’s degree with one year of financial experience; High school diploma with five years of financial experience
Knowledge of general accounting practices, university, fiscal and human resource policies and procedures

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Knowledge of sponsored project policies and procedures or research administration
Good written and oral communication skills with individuals both internal and external to the university.
Skills with Microsoft Office software
Strong skills in spreadsheet creation and maintenance
Good problem-solving and organizational skills
Ability to interpret financial data and explain to non-financial personnel
Ability to adapt to changing policies, procedures and organizational demands
Ability to work well with a diverse group of individuals
Ability to multi-task and set priorities
Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

Two years of financial experience in a higher education environment; One year of experience in grants and contracts research administration

UT market range: MR09
Anticipated hiring range: $60,000 – $63,000 DOE&Q
