BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Performs a variety of duties related to finance in a medical care facility. The healthcare accountant gathers, analyzes, and interprets financial data to assist in the monthly closing of financial systems and completes a variety of balance sheet reconciliations. Also maintains the hospital’s property ledger and reconciles cash receipts from multiple locations. Uses analytical skills to assist team in various reporting needs and with special projects.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s required; Master’s preferred

Degree:
Accounting License/Certification Required:

CPA Preferred.

Minimum Work Experience:

2 years’ experience in accounting required, with healthcare experience preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Advanced knowledge of MS Office. Heavy Excel skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Attention to detail is essential. Excellent communication skills including written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation skills. Ability to recognize potential problems and recommend potential solutions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Participates in the monthly closing process for general ledger. Reconciles cash receipts daily for various locations in the hospital and works with appropriate staff to rectify differences. Includes patient, non-patient, and retail cash. Completes monthly cash reconcilements for same accounts. Maintains subledger for capital assets and reconciles same to general ledger monthly. Supports the hospital’s biweekly payroll function as needed. Completes reconciliation on all, general ledger, payroll related accounts. Files monthly sales tax return with state of Tennessee for all retail locations. Supports both hospital and volunteer leadership during the Fantasy of Trees event, participates in regular FOT facilitators meeting, assists with merchant services support and hardware installation, and serves as shift leader in finance office. Interacts with all patients, staff, volunteers, etc. in a considerate, helpful, and courteous manner, as observed by management observation and peer input. Fosters mature professional relationships with fellow employees in a courteous, friendly, manner as measured by management observation and peer input. Engages with FOT volunteer leadership to develop a positive working relationship and to achieve smooth operations during the events. Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably.
