JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for overseeing accounting functions within the Supply Division, executing accounting policies, procedures, and control systems across the division. Ensures that reporting and activities comply with GAAP and company policies.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Associate’s degree (A. A.) in accounting or related field from two-year College or technical school. A minimum of three to five years of relevant experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. Demonstrated experience with General Ledgers, Accruals, and Reconciliations. Minimum of one year of experience managing people directly, including tasks such as hiring, developing, motivating, and directing them in their work. Knowledge of applicable accounting practices and procedures. Experience with analyzing and reporting data to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement of results and find solutions. Experience using financial ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software, preferably Microsoft Dynamics SL or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Must be available during critical, high-demand accounting periods, such as during audits, physical inventory counts and month-end and fiscal year-end reporting periods.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITEIES

Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of the underlying data supporting financial statements and management reports. Works in partnership with management to meet the accounting needs of the business. Direct and control the teams’ general accounting activities, including recording company transactions, classifications, and reconciliation of account balances in accordance with GAAP and company policy. Communicate accounting policies clearly to the team and the business unit and provide support as needed. Responsible for all Supply Division accounting activities of AP, AR, Inventory, Order Management,and Purchasing and accounting system/application maintenance. Assist with maintaining and updating any changes to Supply Division SOP’s. Propose recommendations for changes and improvements to accounting policies/procedures. Oversee month-end closing procedures, including inventory listings, margin reports, cutoffs for billing and receiving, and assisting with commission calculations. Maintain balance sheet reconciliations and schedules for all assigned general ledger accounts for the Supply Division. Prepare all assigned journal entries for the Supply Division. Preparation and filing of state and local sales tax returns for all states where SMI conducts business, including sales and use tax. Assist with the review of Supply Accounts Payable and Supply Accounts Receivable open balances. Assist with preparing and reviewing supporting documentation for internal and external audits. Assist with inventory schedules, inventory cycle counts, and physical counts. Assist with Accounting Special Projects. Mentor, coach, and develop Supply Accounting and Admin Staff through orientation, training, establishment of objectives, communication of policies and rules, and constructive discipline; builds morale and motivation. Compile any statistical reports, as requested. Other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and demonstrate manual dexterity while performing job duties. The employee will continuously sit, stand, walk, handle, talk, see, and hear. Must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time, paying attention to detail. Requires constant operation of standard office machines, including computer and telephone. Requires frequent ability to move freely about the office building.

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Environment, such as an office or outdoors. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Physical effort/lifting, such as sedentary-up to 10 pounds; light – up to 20 pounds. Essential physical requirements include climbing, standing, stooping, or typing.
