JOB FUNCTION / SUMMARY

Works closely with the Chief Internal Auditor in setting strategic direction and managing the daily operational and administrative activities of the Internal Audit department in order to assure effectiveness of controls, accuracy of financial records, compliance with laws and regulations, and efficiency of operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Stays abreast of key initiatives and changes in the Bank, including emerging risks and regulatory changes. Leads and supervises enterprise-level risk assessment on an annual and ongoing basis to produce a risk-based internal audit plan and recommends updates/revisions as prompted by changes to the Bank’s risk profile.
Ensures risk assessment reporting to the Audit Committee and executive management is current and accurate.
Directs audit staff in audit planning, scope, reporting, and achievement of deadlines; performs work paper reviews and provides necessary coaching / on-the-job training to audit staff.
Oversees performance of process-level risk assessments to drive risk-based scope at project level.
Ensures minimal disruption to the client.
Directly contributes to audit fieldwork when necessary.
Leads audit entrance and closing meetings.
Maintains open lines of communication with all stakeholders regarding audit work.
Develops partnerships with clients by understanding their goals and deliverables, key business processes, technologies, risk management practices, changes in operations/products/service offerings, and areas of potential risk.
Makes presentations to the Audit Committee and executive management in various settings.
Manages status reporting of audit planning, scope, and achievement of deadlines.
Ensures audit issue tracking is current and accurate.
Develops concise audit reports that articulate risk, business issues, and impact, and provides clear solutions-based recommendations.
Provides departmental reporting and presentations to the Audit Committee, executive management and others, as required.
Stays current on thought leadership regarding the audit profession, including the IIA Standards, audit methodology, and leading audit tools and technology.
Develops and assists in departmental budgetary matters.
Works closely with the outsourced internal audit firm and external auditors to ensure they are efficient and additional fees are minimized.
Acts as a key liaison with the regulators.
Performs all other duties and special projects as assigned.
Incumbent is required to comply with all applicable federal, state, and local banking and industry related laws and regulations including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages multiple employees, including third party providers; is responsible for the direction, coordination and evaluation of this unit and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; coaching, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (education/training, plus experience) with at least 10 years related experience, including at least seven (7) years in internal or financial auditing and at least five (5) years in a supervisory role; Master’s degree or equivalent with internal audit or financial audit experience in a financial institution or other related work associated with banking preferred
CPA, CIA, CISA, etc. preferred
Comprehensive understanding of the banking industry
Understanding of financial statements, financial analysis, and business strategies
Thorough understanding of banking operations and functions
Current knowledge of federal banking regulations

Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
Ability to operate a keyboard if required to perform the essential job functions
Ability to read and interpret a document if required to perform the essential job functions
Ability to travel if required to perform the essential job functions
Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 25 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions.
