Job Description
Internal Audit Manager We’re partnering with a civil engineering firm to identify a seasoned Internal Audit Manager to build and lead their internal audit function. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role ideal for a CPA with a strong public accounting background who thrives in a structured, onsite environment. Key Responsibilities Design and implement a comprehensive internal audit program focused on financial controls and operational efficiency. Conduct audits, identify control gaps, and recommend improvements aligned with strategic goals. Lead ad hoc investigations and special projects as directed by the Financial Controls Committee. Prepare and present audit findings to senior leadership. Maintain process documentation and stay current on audit best practices and regulatory changes. Develop and maintain a risk-based audit plan that aligns with organizational priorities. Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations and follow up on remediation efforts. Serve as a liaison with external auditors and regulatory bodies during audits and reviews. Train and mentor junior audit staff or cross-functional team members involved in audit activities. Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) and operational compliance. Support the development of internal policies and procedures to strengthen governance and accountability. Utilize data analytics to enhance audit scope, accuracy, and efficiency. Maintain documentation in accordance with professional standards and internal policies. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA required; CIA or CFE preferred. 5-7 years of audit experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role. Strong knowledge of internal controls, risk management, and audit standards. Excellent communication and analytical skills. Experience with Deltek Costpoint and OneStream is a plus. Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
