This role leads internal audits across business functions and supports our risk management program to proactively identify, assess, and respond to key risks impacting our property and casualty (P&C) insurance operations. Will exercise strong audit expertise, with a deep understanding of insurance operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Internal Audit Plan and execute internal audit functions across underwriting, claims, finance, compliance, IT, and other functional areas. Responsible for implementing and managing the Audit Board auditing tool Assess the design and effectiveness of internal controls to ensure compliance with applicable laws, state regulations, and internal policies. Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and reduce risk exposure. Prepare clear, concise audit reports with practical recommendations for control enhancements. Monitor remediation of audit findings and perform follow-up testing. Collaborate with external auditors, state examiners, and internal compliance teams as needed. Enterprise Risk Management Support the company’s ERM program by facilitating risk assessments and maintaining the enterprise risk register. Partner with functional leaders to identify emerging risks and evaluate mitigation strategies across operational, financial, compliance, strategic, and reputational risk categories. Develop and monitor key risk indicators (KRIs), particularly those related to financial functions, underwriting performance, claims volatility, and regulatory changes. Assist in quarterly risk reporting to executive leadership (may include Board of Directors) Promote a culture of risk awareness and continuous improvement across the organization.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field required. CPA, CIA, CISA, ARM, or other relevant certifications are strongly preferred. 5+ years of progressive experience in internal audit, risk management, or a related role within the P&C insurance industry. Solid understanding of insurance-specific risks, including pricing adequacy, reserve setting, reinsurance, and regulatory compliance. Strong understanding of control frameworks (e.g., COSO), risk assessment methodologies, and NAIC model audit rules. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to deliver insights clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. High attention to detail, strong judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and audit/risk tools (e.g., AuditBoard, Workiva, Archer, or similar platforms).
