Summary:
The Regional Director I reports directly to the VP of Retail Banking and is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational oversight, and performance management of multiple branches within a designated region. This role plays a critical part in driving branch success by developing and implementing effective policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to all regulatory and compliance standards, and cultivating a high-performance culture through staff training, development, and engagement. The Regional Director is accountable for budgeting, P&L management, and the overall direction and execution of business plans across the region. A key responsibility includes monitoring and ensuring that each branch meets or exceeds its assigned goals, including performance, service, and growth objectives. All Branch Managers within the region report to this position. Additionally, the Regional Director fosters strong member relationships to support growth, retention, and exceptional service delivery. The role also involves close collaboration with senior leadership to ensure branch operations are aligned with the organization’s strategic goals. This includes ongoing evaluation and enhancement of operational processes to improve efficiency, elevate the member experience, and support long-term organizational success. Duties and Responsibilities Branch Leadership & Strategy o Meet monthly with branch management teams to review performance against established goals (loan volume, ancillary products, sales targets, etc.) and offer strategic recommendations for areas requiring improvement. o Proactively identify opportunities to enhance and streamline sales processes and procedures to improve effectiveness and efficiency. o Drive overall branch sales performance by creating and implementing focused strategies tailored to each branch’s performance metrics and objectives. o Analyzes branch staffing levels and workforce allocation to ensure alignment with operational needs, member service expectations, and budgetary guidelines, making strategic adjustments as necessary to optimize efficiency and performance. o Continuously monitor each branch’s progress toward performance goals and develop targeted action plans to address gaps. o Coordinate implementation of sales initiatives and changes and support the adoption and effective use of internal sales tools to drive organizational growth. o Conduct regular visits to branches to ensure sales activities and best practices are consistently executed across locations. o Submit comprehensive weekly trip reports to the Vice President of Retail Banking, summarizing key insights and progress. o Lead by example, modeling professional behavior and performance standards expected of all branch team members. o Represent the financial institution in the community, fostering strong member relationships and collaborating with Marketing, Public Relations, and Community Engagement to strengthen the organization’s local presence. o Serve as acting manager during extended absences of branch managers, ensuring continuity of leadership and operations. o Perform additional department-wide projects and responsibilities as assigned to support organizational objectives. o Address and resolve member issues or concerns and provide guidance and support to branch leadership and staff on effective issue resolution. o Collaborate with senior leadership to deliver regular updates on branch sales performance, including evaluations of both branch-level and individual team member achievements. o Leverage analytical skills to assess operational needs and support the execution of special projects as assigned. o Monitor and analyze regional branch performance metrics, including Net Promoter Score (NPS), Google reviews, and overall member satisfaction, to identify trends, recognize top-performing branches, and implement region-wide strategies for service improvement and brand reputation enhancement. Team Development & Coaching Champion team-building initiatives, support individual professional development, and contribute to succession planning across all branches. Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to branch leaders conducting regular one-on-one sessions and sales meetings at each branch to enhance sales performance and member service. Maintain thorough documentation of coaching, mentoring, and development efforts for branch managers, team members, and other relevant staff. Partner with Branch Management to ensure clear and consistent communication regarding the training, development, and performance of branch staff. Facilitate monthly regional meetings with branch managers and lead monthly all-branch manager meetings to align goals, share updates, and reinforce strategic direction. Deliver ongoing sales training to front-line team members, aimed at enhancing sales techniques, behaviors, and overall member engagement. Compliance & Risk Management Stay updated on credit union regulations, policies, and procedures; conduct necessary audits. Collaborate with the Risk Management and Audit teams for oversight and assurance. Cross-Functional Partnership Coordinate with Human Resources and Training on recruiting, onboarding and ongoing curriculum enhancements. Partner with internal departments on referrals, campaigns and credit-union initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related field required; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered. Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in the financial services industry, retail banking, or a service-driven environment. Prior experience in a multi-branch leadership, supervisory, and sales management role is highly preferred. Demonstrated success in leading and managing with a strong ability to build, coach, and inspire high-performing teams that consistently meet or exceed organizational goals. In-depth knowledge of branch operations, regulatory compliance, and risk management practices. Experience implementing policies, ensuring operational consistency, and driving process improvements across distributed teams. Strong understanding of credit union products, services, and lending practices. Proficient in interpreting credit bureau reports, evaluating underwriting criteria, and applying sound lending philosophies to support member needs and organizational growth. Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex data, identify trends, and make informed decisions that drive performance and operational efficiency. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage a wide range of stakeholders including members, employees, executive leadership, vendors, and regulatory bodies. Proficient in core financial principles, including interpretation of balance sheets, income statements, and key financial ratios. Able to leverage peer benchmarking and financial analysis to inform branch strategy and improve performance outcomes. Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with the ability to support remote branch operations during closures, respond to urgent needs, and adapt to shifting business priorities.
