To maintain complete and systematic set of financial records while assisting all staff and administration with the business affairs of the school system.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; Associate’s degree or higher preferred Three years’ experience in bookkeeping or accounting preferred Previous experience in computerized accounting systems Basic knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
Skills and Physical Abilities:
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or electronic communications. Ability to use technology for communication, presentations, research, data analysis, budgeting, record keeping, reporting, scheduling, and other job responsibilities as required. Ability to multi-task and to prioritize tasks efficiently. Ability to use software such as Microsoft and Google to assist with accounting tasks. Ability to navigate websites that are necessary for account reconciliations and processes. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Demonstrates support for the school system, its purpose, direction, and priorities. Maintain security and confidentiality of all school business, staff and students’ information as outlined in the Blount County Security Use Agreement, Responsible Use Policy, FERPA and any and all state and federal laws and statues. Must follow Board Policy and Accounting Policies and Procedures. Assists with account balances and proper accounting protocols. Utilizes school system-provided accounting & budgeting software and assists in preparing annual budget. Help to maintain and monitor local, state and federal provided funds. May perform accounts payable duties that include, but are not limited to, the issuance of purchase orders, accurate coding and posting of invoices and timely payments to vendors. May perform payroll duties such as employee and substitute files, payroll input and edit, verify payroll withholding, prepare LEAPS files for State Department of Education and other duties as needed in the payroll department. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. May prepare daily deposits of cash or assists other designated personnel. Build appropriate general ledger accounts as needed. May Reconcile monthly bank statements and submit monthly financial report as needed. Assists with year-end procedures and processes, including fiscal year-end and calendar year-end. Collaborates with Local School Bookkeepers and other Bookkeeping personnel. Traces errors and records adjustments to correct debits or credits posted to incorrect accounts. Assist auditors in obtaining data needed for audits. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with board policies and procedures. Maintain security of records and files, following federal, state, and local laws for record keeping. Properly uses and cares for tools, equipment and materials resources of the school system. Maintain professional growth and competence through professional development as directed by the CSFO. Cross-train on all bookkeeping/accounts payable, payroll and banking procedures. Performs other job-related duties as directed by the Superintendent and/or CSFO. Perform duties in a manner that will promote good public relations.
Terms of employment:
240-days Daily work schedule will be determined by the Superintendent or his/her designee for the necessary operations of the Central Office. Work assignments and schedules are subject to change.
Salary:
Approved salary schedule for Central Office Bookkeeper is located on the Human Resources webpage. Annual salary is based on a 40-hour week with daily full-time equivalent of 37.5 standard work hours.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the support personnel evaluation system and board policy.
