Accounting Clerk

QUALIFICATIONS

: 1. A high school diploma or GED required; associate degree or coursework in accounting, finance, or business preferred. 2. Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping, preferably in a public school or governmental setting. 3. Must meet background clearance as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

REPORTS TO

: Chief School Financial Officer (CSFO)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.

REQUIRED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.

Processes and records accounts payable and receivable in compliance with district policies and procedures. 2. Prepares and issues purchase orders, invoices, and payment vouchers. 3. Reconciles bank statements and financial records, identifying and resolving discrepancies. 4. Assists with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. 5. Maintains accurate and organized financial files and documentation. 6. Supports payroll functions as needed, including data entry and record-keeping. 7. Assists in tracking expenditures and budgets for various departments and programs. 8. Provides clerical and administrative support to the Finance Department and CSFO. 9. Answers inquiries from vendors, staff, and other stakeholders regarding financial transactions. 10. Prepares documents for audits and assists auditors during the audit process. 11. Assumes other reasonable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

: 1. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). 2. Experience with financial software (e.g., NextGen or other school finance platforms) is preferred. 3. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. 4. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information. 5. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. 6. Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. 7. Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment.

: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of personnel.
