CITY S CHOOLS ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST II – 238 CONTRACT DAYS JOB DESCRIPTION QUALIFICATIONS
(1) Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or business related field from an accredited educational institution preferred. (2) Experience in accounting or business related field preferred. (3) Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to plan, organize and analyze. Ability to utilize personal computer/mainframe software and hardware. Ability to read and interpret State Board of Education rules, School Board policies and appropriate state and federal statutes. Knowledge of general accounting principles and cash control standards. Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Skill in applying basic mathematics to work responsibilities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with schools, departments, and vendors.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
(1) Reconciles bank statements. (2) Prepares purchase orders, invoices, travel vouchers, etc. for payment. (3) Prepare journal entries to general ledger as needed. (4) Verify programs budgets on a monthly basis. (5) Prepare field trip vouchers. (6) Performs general accounting functions as assigned. (7) Provides support in maintaining and updating financial policies and procedures and associate forms. (8) Prepare data in support of monthly financial reports. (9) Verify receipts and payments as assigned. (10) Provide support to finance operations. (11) Assist in preparing for annual audit. (12) Maintains accounting files on contracts as assigned. (13) Complete special projects as assigned. (14) Serve as a resource to schools and departments in areas of responsibility. (15) Utilize personal computer/mainframe and software applications in areas of responsibility.. (16) Perform routine duties as required, i.e., serve as receptionist, compose and send correspondence, answer telephones, sort and distribute mail and order materials. (17) Communicate effectively with vendors, staff members, administrators and other contact persons using tact and good judgment. (18) Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules. (19) Ensure adherence to good safety standards. (20) Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters. (21) Model and maintain high ethical standards. (22) Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities. (23) Maintain expertise in assigned area to fulfill project goals and objectives. (24) Participate successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency. (25) Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light Work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.
