Job Overview:
Brevard County’s Office of Tourism is seeking a friendly and knowledgeable Accounting Technician who can perform a variety of clerical and technical accounting duties in support of Brevard County’s financial operations. This role is primarily responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and reconciling accounts. The Accounting Technician ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as departmental policies and procedures. This position supports the Tourism Finance Manager, Deputy Director, and Executive Director. It requires a high level of attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:
Primary Department Timekeeper. Assure bi-weekly timesheets match in County TMS and LMS systems. Input timesheets into SAP system. Receive vendor invoices. Prepare vendor invoices for payment, route them for approval and enter them into SAP accounting system. Ensure payments made on correct PO, PO line item and accounting code. Primary point of contact with Brevard County Finance on invoices, travel expense reports/requests and Pcards. Assist department admin staff with travel expense report and travel request preparation. Process both with County Finance. Coordinate monthly collection and processing for County purchasing card reconciliations with backup. Upload to County Finance. Input County purchase requisitions as needed. Ensure accurate coding and text. Update large PO spreadsheet. Track grant payments. Review grant reimbursements for accuracy to include cover sheet and backup. Input vendor contracts, leases and grant agreements into County Contracts Management system. Research cost/expense history as needed. Check on vendor payments through SAP and County Finance. Prepare basic Excel spreadsheets as needed to sum dollar amounts, etc. Gather W-9 forms and prepare purchasing vendor requests. File and organize documents in Dropbox network folders. Answer general finance questions regarding the above.
Requirements:
Education:
Two (2) years [60 semester or 90 quarter hours] of college-level credit with major coursework in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field one (1) year of experience in an accounting, full-charge bookkeeping system. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, financial reporting, and data entry.
Preferred:
Basic skills in accounting software (SAP) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word). Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
