The ideal candidate is part bookkeeper, part CFO—comfortable handling everything from QuickBooks entries to executive-level financial reporting.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years bookkeeping/accounting experience in construction or contracting
- Strong knowledge of QuickBooks Online
- Familiarity with job costing, progress billing, and percentage of completion accounting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (intermediate to advanced)
- Strong understanding of cash flow management
- Ability to communicate effectively with owners, project managers, vendors, and clients
- Self-starter with a high level of accuracy, organization, and confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with JobTread, Buildertrend, or other construction-specific platforms
- Understanding of compliance (lien waivers, COIs, W9s)
- Familiarity with project-based reporting and draw schedules
- Prior experience coordinating with CPA or tax advisors
Key Responsibilities:

Weekly Accounting Tasks:
- Manage Accounts Payable (A/P): enter bills, schedule payments, reconcile statements, maintain vendor compliance (W9s, COIs)
- Manage Accounts Receivable (A/R): create invoices, monitor customer balances, manage collections
- Bank and credit card reconciliations
- Process employee reimbursements and credit card expense entries
- Maintain accurate general ledger entries in QuickBooks Online
- Monitor and manage payroll entries (in coordination with HR or third-party payroll provider)
Construction Financial Management:
- Oversee job costing and ensure accurate tracking of labor, materials, and subcontractor costs per project
- Maintain budget vs. actuals reporting for all active jobs
- Work with project managers to validate change orders, draw schedules, and lien releases
- Manage and forecast cash flow weekly and monthly
- Assist with preparation and submission of loan draws or funding requests
Financial Reporting & Strategy:
- Prepare and deliver monthly financial reports to ownership (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow statements)
- Provide insights into profitability by job, division, or client
- Recommend improvements to financial systems, software, and workflows
- Assist ownership in creating annual budgets and long-term financial plans
- Coordinate with CPA on tax planning and year-end close
