If you enjoy working with numbers and finances, Mercer University has a great opportunity for you! We are searching for a Bookkeeper on the Macon, Georgia campus. This position requires experience in accounting practices regarding receiving, recording, and reconciling all types of payments (cash, checks, credit card, etc.). You’ll learn about our unique processes while working with accounting personnel from other campus departments.
Responsibilities:
This position’s objectives will be equally shared in Accounting and Payroll. The first objective is to receive, review, record and reconcile all deposits into the accounting system with the exception of student accounts, gifts, and grants/contract deposits. The main departments that bring deposits are Mercer Medicine, Mercer Press, Grand Opera House, Athletics, Auxiliary Services (includes vending machine change), and other various deposits. This position must manage the batches so the actual deposit matches the bank deposit but can easily be identified by department. This position also processes credit card payments for various areas. The second objective of this position is to provide support to the Payroll area, more specifically in the area mass mailings, filing, and back up assistance when needed. This position also serves an overall role for the building; monitoring traffic, incoming & outgoing mail, and general phone inquiries.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma/GED and two years of prior support experience that includes prior bookkeeping/accounting experience and experience in the use of multiple computer applications, including Microsoft Office. Accounting/bookkeeping skills and working knowledge of general business office practices are required.
