DEFINITION

To perform a variety of technical accounting duties involving the accounting, budgeting, recording and reporting of financial transactions for an assigned department or division; and to monitor spending of federal and special program funds for an assigned program or division; and to provide technical assistance to higher level accounting staff.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Maintain and reconcile a variety of ledgers, reports and account records; examine and correct accounting transactions to ensure accurate recording, balancing and classification of all collected income and expenditures to the proper accounts. Prepare budgets for assigned division or special program; monitor compliance with spending requirements; develop spreadsheet reports for assigned programs and submit to appropriate management staff. Maintain various ledger and cost systems; review and analyze costs and rates; prepare cost projects. Participate in the compilation and preparation of assigned division’s annual budget and report.

Experience:

Three years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting or bookkeeping.

Education and Training:

Equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or a related field. The City of Jackson is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
