DESCRIPTION
Position:

School Nutrition Bookkeeper
Reports to: Director of School Nutrition

Terms of Employment:

12 months, Part-Time (30 hours/week)

Pay Grade:

63

Non-Exempt
Nature of Work
Employee will perform general accounting procedures for the School Nutrition Department with Craven County Schools. Employee will maintain financial records for the (23) Craven County School cafeterias.
Education and Experience
Graduation from high school; Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred
Certification and Licensure Requirements (if applicable): Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
Under the direct supervision of the School Nutrition Director, perform all duties and responsibilities as outlined:
Key in all School Nutrition invoices throughout the month and payment of invoices.
Key Daily Deposit Slips from schools.
Complete Monthly Claim for the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) in the NCDPI School Nutrition Technology System.
Journal entries for the FFVP.
Completes, first quarter, semi-annual, third quarter, and annual FC-1A Report
Monthly and end of year Journal entries.
Monitors and updates Fixed Assets. Work with supervisor to ensure proper documentation of equipment purchases are filed and retained. Work with procurement supervisor to ensure proper transfer of equipment between schools are made.
Reconcile Point of Sale data with school cafeterias deposit slips.
Reconcile deposit slips with bank statements.
Assist managers/cashiers with computer problems and assist training specialist with cashier trainings as needed.
Work with cafeteria managers to rectify student’s account when needed.
Assist the Director with preparing the Annual Budget and amendments throughout the year as needed.
General Ledger Reconciliations.
Collect year end students’ negative balances and send letters to families.
Address parent concerns regarding child’s lunch account.
Cross-train Office Administrator duties.
Develops and implements protocol, training, and assessment for assigned areas. Provide follow-up one on one training with staff who do not meet School Nutrition standards.
All other duties and responsibilities assigned by the School Nutrition Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficient computer skills with the ability to navigate multiple software applications
Working knowledge of general accounting and financial operations
Working knowledge of office practices and general office equipment
Working knowledge and ability to use correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Ability to read and comprehend procedures
Ability to exercise independent judgment and to use initiative to resolve problems
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Ability to communicate in a pleasant, positive manner with students, staff, parents, and co-workers
Physical Requirements
The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the School Nutrition Bookkeeper job classification within the School Nutrition Department of Craven County Schools. Work in this classification is considered medium physical work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 30 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Must be able to:
Walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel and crouch
Operate machines, motor vehicles, hand tools, and job specific equipment tools
Determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work
Observe general surroundings and activities
Hear sufficiently to accurately perceive information at normally spoken word levels
Use communication by means of spoken and written words to express or exchange ideas
Special Requirements
Valid NC Driver’s License
