DESCRIPTION

Description The Financial Clerk works under immediate supervision to perform responsible clerical duties in the Utility Customer Service area. Examples of Duties The Financial Clerk must have a thorough knowledge of all utility customer service procedures and processes. The position will be responsible for receiving and processing requests for water or construction permits, reviews permit applications to ensure that all required data is complete and accurate; data entry; checks tax and zoning maps to verify service location; enters and invoices permits; processes credit evaluations, explains billing data and collection events to customers in person or over the telephone; and assist with other customer account maintenance and service needs. Additionally, makes decisions regarding payment extensions, pay arrangements, and reconnection of water service.

Typical Qualifications Education and Experience:

 Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma supplemented by courses in business administration with recent experience in a customer service environment (utility preferred).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The ability to operate a variety of office machines, communicate effectively with customers and coworkers and demonstrate accurate data entry skills. Must be able to perform in a team environment as well as independently of supervision. Knowledge of windows-based systems, Microsoft Word and Excel skills preferred. A person fluent in both English and Spanish is desired.

Physical Requirements:

 This work is sedentary and requires little to no exertion of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires walking and occasionally requires standing; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
