Child Nutrition Bookkeeper Child Nutrition Department Job Description General Statement of Job:

Under the direction of the Child Nutrition Director, perform responsible accounting, clerical, and secretarial duties in support of food service operations; prepare and maintain various financial records, statements, and reports related to the district’s food service program.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform a variety of administrative functions involving a positive rapport with the Child Nutrition Director, Child Nutrition Supervisor, and Cafeteria Managers to provide administrative support and leadership Maintain computer records, lists, and statistics regarding inventory Review, record, verify, and process invoices for payment Order, expedite, and follow up on orders of supplies, food, and packaging items Perform secretarial and receptionist duties in support of the food service program Develop and maintain filing systems and records including confidential information in support of the food service program Maintain the Meals Plus Point of Sale database, including adding, transferring, and withdrawing students as necessary; updating student information; reviewing and managing student accounts and histories information; assisting managers with problems or training. Is responsible for putting in the claim each month for reimbursement for National School Breakfast and National School Lunch Program. Type up various documents that may need to be put out there from time to time on the LCPS website. Coordinate communications between Director and Vendors Responsible for all work orders requested by each cafeteria Responsible for making sure that all cafeteria staff timesheets are accurate Maintain contact with child nutrition vendors regarding items, prices, and issue Provide specialized assistance and information to callers regarding the child nutrition program Monitors financial deposits made by cafeteria managers at banks for accuracy Answer questions from cafeteria employees or the public concerning policies, procedures, or deadlines; explain the use of records or information Work with other Child Nutrition Staff to resolve problems and provide solutions to day to day operations Must be a Member of the School Nutrition Association and maintain membership throughout employment with Lenoir County Public Schools. Must attend one local School Nutrition Association meeting per school year. Must be willing to go out to schools when needed to help cafeteria teams due to numbers of absences or due to extreme circumstances. Help ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and standards of sanitation. Prepares the Promotion notebook for cafeteria managers each summer for the next school year. Assist with Summer Feeding Program Works with Child Nutrition Director and Child Nutrition Managerial Consultant/Supervisor on Promotions for the next school year during Summer. Assist with special events and projects as assigned or requested Attends seminars, conferences, workshops to maintain knowledge of accounting skills and keep up with the changes in regulations in terms of financial regulations that affect the Child Nutrition Program. Responsible for completing and filing Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Claim in the event that the Lead Manager is absent and unable to do so. Additional Training and Experience Perform other related work as required

Minimum Training and Experience:

Associate’s Degree and/or 2 to 4 years general office and accounting experience Good oral and written skills Knowledge of accounting techniques and procedures Ability to use sound judgment in resolving problems Ability to maintain confidentiality of appropriate information and materials Ability to plan and organize work activities Knowledge of computer programs including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Ability to promote good relationships internally and with the public Being a team player so that when someone is out in the office, they exhibit willingness to help out where they are needed as well.

Other Requirements:

Maintain an acceptable attendance record and be punctual Maintain professionalism and confidentiality of all LCPS information both in the Child Nutrition office, out in the school cafeterias, and out in public. Must have a positive attitude about the program and when working with staff within the program.
