Accounting Specialist Hourly Range:

$20•$25 This is an hourly non-exempt position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. Position Summary Applying purchasing laws as mandated by NC state statutes in the preparation of purchase requisitions for the procurement of all equipment, supplies and capital outlay items necessary for the operation of all divisions within the Sheriff’s Office. Responsible for monitoring and reconciliation of accounting processes in accordance with policy and procedures. Ensures timely processing of invoices received for all purchases and services. Applies Federal rules and regulations and NC state statutes for confinement reimbursement in compiling data and documentation necessary for billing federal and state agencies for resident housing. Research resident medical expenses to verify responsibility and invoices proper agency, or processes for payment, adhering to Federal rules and regulations and NC state statutes. Processes revenue from various local, state, and federal agencies maintaining accurate accounting records. Provides tracking of charges for funeral escorts documenting payments and reconciling accounts. Coordinates arrangements and advances for agency training and travel ensuring adherence to county policy and monitoring for allowable expenditures. Manages the accounts for civil judgment collections in compliance with NC state statutes, while ensuring accuracy in each disbursement. Ensures knowledge of county procedures in order to provide training and instruction on payroll procedures, calculates percentages for employees on medical leave, audits all payroll records for accuracy and facilitates disbursement of checks and necessary adjustments. Regular and dependable attendance is an essential function of all Sheriff’s Office positions.

Qualifications:

Minimum of four years of accounting or administrative work for an assigned area. Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
