Description of Work The Accounting Technician I is in the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (DAC) Controller’s Office and is responsible for managing the SharePoint Statement Library, reviewing and verifying supplier statements for accuracy, and resolving discrepancies with suppliers. The position will track and handle unclaimed property, including researching and reissuing uncashed checks, ensuring compliance with state escheatment laws, and processing returned checks. It will also manage refunds, ensuring proper coding and entering refunds into the NCFS Payables module. Additionally, they will assist with special projects and other duties as assigned by management. Strong attention to detail, collaboration with internal teams and suppliers, and compliance with policies and procedures are essential for this role. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Reviewing supplier statements to confirm the accuracy of outstanding invoices, payments, and credits based on NCFS or NCAS records
Identifying and resolving discrepancies, such as unrecorded payments, incorrect charges, or missing invoices, through collaboration with suppliers
Coordinating with Accounts Payable staff to address and resolve issues efficiently
Detecting duplicate payments and taking corrective actions
Maintaining detailed and accurate documentation to support PRGX audits This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial data. Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 19,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving the lives and property of its citizens through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry. The Controller’s Office assumes oversight responsibility for the financial operations pertaining to the Department of Adult Correction accounting. This encompasses the management of accounts payable/receivables, the preparation of financial reports, the administration of fixed asset accounting, the processing of payroll, the supervision of purchasing/WEX cards, tax management, travel-related expenditures, and other business payments and reimbursements. The work performed in the section allows for a diverse level of expertise and academic qualifications in the field of accounting and may require certification as a Public Accountant. DAC uses the Merit-Based Recruitment and Selection Plan to fill positions subject to the State Human Resources Act with the most qualified individuals. Hiring salary will be based on relevant qualifications, internal equity, and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position.
