About You:

The Senior Fiscal Specialist, will be responsible to support the accounts payable activities for the City, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves reviewing and processing invoices and adjustments, processing payments, auditing employee expense reports and non-purchase order invoices, reconciling payments, processing exceptions and maintaining organized records of all transactions. The Senior Fiscal Specialist will collaborate with departments and supplier to streamline payable processes to process timely payments.

About Us:

The Accounts Payable Division is responsible for providing the timely and accurate disbursement of City of Raleigh funds and recording of those expenditures in a manner consistent with policy, guidelines, and other government regulations. As part of the Finance Department, we play a crucial role in maintaining the city’s financial integrity and fostering positive relationships with vendors and our departments. Duties and Responsibilities Ensures invoices, reimbursement requests, adjustments are

  • valid and supported by all required documentation before entering, approving and processing payments
    Prepares and processes accounts payable checks, ACH payments, expense reimbursements, refunds
    Provides training and guidance to internal customers regarding account payable processes and systems
    Supports resolving issues and discrepancies.

Reconciles payments, accounts, transactions and financial information, processes exceptions, makes corrections and resolves errors
Maintains communication with vendors and internal customers providing support and timely information
Provides internal and external customer support, responds to inquiries, operational issues and instructions related to accounts, policies in the assigned area of responsibility and refers advanced issues to appropriate resource

Typical Qualifications Education and Experience:

Associate’s Degree in accounting or business administration and two years of paraprofessional accounting experience, preferably in area of assignment OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Additional Information Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Composing and maintaining basic original documents including reports, spreadsheets, and correspondence
Microsoft Word, Outlook for emails and scheduling, and MS Excel for applying basic formula (sum, average, vlookup)
Business math concepts
Customer service principles
Organizing tasks, meeting deadlines and prioritizing competing demands
Providing attention to detail in assignments
Performing basic original research, compiling and assembling data

ADA and Other Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require: fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work:

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Working Conditions:

Work is routinely performed in an indoor, office environment.
